PRGP's Volunteers
PRGP is 100% volunteer driven. We are made up of a dedicated group of Pit Bull lovers. As volunteers, we work hard to rescue needy Pit Bulls from area shelter, educate the public about this misunderstood breed and promote responsible ownership. Our collective experience as educators, vet assistants, rescuers, trainers, marketers and pit bull owners motivates us to work for this organization.  Our official PRGP volunteers include these dedicated individuals:

Lori, Board President

Lori became involved with PRGP after volunteering at an area animal shelter.  Lori held a fundraiser to help a female pit bull named Shilo and her puppies who needed medical treatment to survive.  Lori volunteers her time as Board President fielding general inquires on the website and PRGP hotline, managing the Rally to Rescue program, processing adoption applications, maintaining the Facebook presence and organizing special events.  She is the proud owner of 3 pit bulls.  Gabby is full of personality and endless energy and ‘the twins’ as she calls them, Ava and Freddie, were a part of a litter of puppies she fostered for PRGP.  Lori has extensive experience and great knowledge of the breed and she is also a volunteer for Pit Bull Rescue Central.  Email Lori

Eric, Board Vice President

Eric is our web guru and board VP.  He follows BSL in the area and stays connected through Pit Bull Forums.  Eric is also active on PRGP committees and he helps with special events.  With his wife, Stephanie, they eagerly participated even before adopting their baby girl Eve, now over 3 years old. Eric strives to change the image of Pit Bulls to a more positive, correct, and educated one.  Eric and Stephanie make sure Eve is a great ambassador for the American Pit Bull Terrier breed and strive to educate others about the many myths associated with Pit Bulls.  They have taken Eve to 8 different obedience and agility courses.  Eve passed her Canine Good Citizen test in March, 2009 and in April, 2009, Eve became a certified Search and Rescue Canine passing the NASDN basic man trailing test.  Eric an Eve are on the Brookings County Search and Rescue team.   Email Eric

Courtney, Board Secretary
Courtney has been a pit bull owner for many years and she is extremely dedicated to the breed.  Her first pit bulls Piggy and Lexi, were dogs she rescued for a horrible situation in California.  Those dogs were devoted members of her family until they passed away.  Lucky for Karma, a PRGP alum, Courtney and her young daughter Isabella, decided to add a new pit bull companion to their family in 2008.  Courtney has worked and volunteered at several animal shelters and she knows first hand the bad rap this breed endures.  As Board Secretary, Courtney helps with recordkeeping, adoption days, home visits, education programs and PRGP special events.  Email Courtney

Darci, Founder
Darci founded PRGP when there was no hope for desperate pit bulls like Kenya at local shelters.  At that time most local shelters maintained a strict no adopt policy on pit bulls.  The good news is that recently many of these policies have changed thanks in part to Pit Rescue of the Great Plains educational efforts.  Darci’s background is in marketing, she has worked in an animal shelter in fundraising and operations and she's a trained volunteer for UAN.  Darci has 3 dogs, two of which are pit bulls.  Bo is a deaf pit bull who learned an array of commands through hand signals and he's known around her home as 'oity doity'.  Lady is a pit bull who came to PRGP as a part of a litter of pups from an abuse case.  Bo and Lady live with an old yellow lab mix named Marli.  Darci contributes her time fostering pit bulls, focusing on community education, coordinating PRGP volunteers.  Darci's focus remains on responsible pet ownership and dispelling myths about the breed.  Email Darci

Kelli, PRGP Volunteer
Kelli (pictured to the left with her daughter Brie) became involved in PRGP when she fostered a pit bull puppy in 2005.  Needless to say she couldn’t part with him and now Oreo, who lives happily with Kelli, her husband Adam, and their young daughter, Brie.  Kelli has been involved with PRGP ever since.  She worked at a local animal shelter and veterinary clinic for many years and makes sure Oreo is a good ambassador for the breed.  Kelli is eager to help with any PRGP special projects.  She secures donations, coordinates fundraising events and lends her expertise and organization to our annual Rally to Rescue.  Kelli has a heart of gold and she is always willing to do anything to help out a needy pit bull.

Lindsey, PRGP Volunteer
Lindsey gained her love of pit bulls through her work at a local animal shelter and veterinary clinic.  She and her family have been active at PRGP special events and Lindsey has been active in helping change breed ban laws in her own community.  Lindsey is a great advocate for the pit bull breed and she enjoys helping with Rally to Rescue and the Bully Matchmaker program.

Ashley and Tony, PRGP Volunteers & Foster Family

Ashley and Tony became involved with rescuing pit bulls when they adopted Daisy Mae.  They wanted a dog that was smart, good with kids, and active.  After researching many breeds, they found that a Pit Bull Terrier was the perfect fit.  After adopting Daisy as a puppy (she was left in a box on a roadside), they moved to Sioux Falls and wanted to volunteer for a local organization.  After hearing about a rescue in town that was looking for foster homes on the news, they called in and started volunteering with the Pit Rescue of the Great Plains.  They hope some day their son Nolan will continue to rescue Pit Bulls and promote the breed as a great family animal and member of the community.

Heidi, Volunteer & Marketing Coordinator
Heidi joined PRGP's rescue efforts in 2009 when she coordinated all the media and marketing activities for the group's annual Rally to Rescue event in August.  Rally to Rescue is an event that Heidi enjoys because it gathers all of the rescue and shelter groups in the area for one great adoption event.  Heidi worked as a Director of Marketing & Development at a local shelter and she is now the Director of Fund Development with Girl Scouts.  Heidi stays busy with her family (husband, Justin and 2 you boys, Dillon and Evan.  She knows first had the struggles of this misunderstood breed and lends her talents to the organization by participating on committees and representing PRGP at various events throughout the year.  PRGP is luck to have Heidi's support and dedication in her role as PR coordinator and active committee member.

Miranda, Communications Coordinator
Miranda began volunteering for PRGP in 2009.  She and her husband and their daughter are proud owners of rescued Dachshunds and a Bull Dog.  Miranda knows the struggles of the pit bull breed through her marketing internship at a local animal shelter.  She lends her talents to PRGP by producing monthly volunteer newsletters and various marketing pieces.  Miranda is also a volunteer and foster home for Dakota Dachshund Rescue.  Email Miranda

Liz & Ryan, PRGP Foster Family

Liz and Ryan are a devoted foster family.  They became involved with PRGP in 2009 and they have actively participated at special events and adoption days.  Liz and Ryan have two Vizslas and they work hard to change the pit bull image making sure their foster dogs are well socialized and know many basic commands.  Liz & Ryan know full well the distorted image of this breed and while they are not pit bull owners, they open their home to fostering these wonderful dogs.

Dave, PRGP Volunteer & Santa
Dave became involved with PRGP in 2006 when he fostered Princess.  Lucky for her Dave decided to make Princess a permanent part of his family.  Princess now lives happily with Dave and his lab mix, Onyx.  Since then Dave has fostered other dogs for PRGP.  He participates in special events and he’s best known for his role as Santa at our annual photo shoot at Petsmart.

Seth and Megan, PRGP Volunteers
Seth and Megan are dedicated PRGP volunteers assisting with special events, homechecks, and adoptions.  Pictured with their two fur kids Koda (left) and Cash (right) and have recently expanded their family with a furless kid, son Kanin.  Seth and Megan have fostered numerous dogs for PRGP some for more than 1yr!  They have always looked out for the wellbeing of the foster dog and have been eager and pleased to help.  In 2007 they received the Volunteer of the Year award for their dedication and commitment to PRGP.
